The Totnes Renewable Energy Society is an Industrial and Provident Society for the benefit of the community.  Anyone resident within Totnes and Environs is eligible for membership for an investment of £20 to £20,000.  When the Society makes a profit interest will be paid to members.  The Society is structured to allow local investors to take advantage of favourable tax concessions.  Each member of the Society will have one vote, regardless of the size of his or her investment.    A member may withdraw his or her shareholding at its current value but cannot sell it on to another party.  This company structure allows for the democratic control of the company by the membership and provides a safeguard from takeover by large commercial interests.  TRESOC Directors are now preparing a detailed Prospectus for the sale of membership of the Society with the aim of attracting as wide a base of share ownership as possible.

TRESOC will develop renewable energy resources for the benefit of the community by the following means:Identifying suitable renewable energy projects with potential for profitable development

  • Entering into partnerships on behalf of the local community with individuals and organisations for the development of renewable energy resources
  • Managing the installation of appropriate renewable energy technologies and the sale of renewable energy

(incorporated under the Industrial and Provident Societies Act 1965)
